| Preamble Our ancestors, passengers on the Mayflower, having landed in December, 1620 at Plymouth Rock, New England, and having come to settle in a new land and found a new home and government, for the benefit of themselves and posterity; and, after struggles and hardships, which, in the first year after landing, carried off one-half of their number and necessitated years of continued fortitude and bravery against innumerable trials of the severest kinds, and their acts and examples having been instrumental in the Establishment of civil and religious liberty throughout this land and their influence having extended to other lands, Therefore, this Society of Mayflower Descendants is founded by lineal descendants of that band of Pilgrims, to preserve their memory, their records, their history, and all facts relating to them and their posterity, and to transmit the spirit, the purity of purpose and steadfastness of will of the Pilgrim Fathers to those who come after us, an undiminished heritage of liberty and law. Article 1 This society shall be named the "Society of Mayflower Descendants in the State of Alaska" ("this Society"). It is authorized to organize and act by virtue of a charter issued August 24, 1963 by the General Society of Mayflower Descendants ("General Society") and its continued operation is subject to compliance with applicable provisions contained within the Constitution of the General Society. |
