BAD World Tour

By MJ net.
The "Bad" tour spanned the globe with stops in 15 countries on 4 continents, and included 123 concerts to about 4.4 million loving fans.

The "Bad" World Tour is Michael Jackson's first ever solo tour.

Michael's 1987 - 1989 "Bad" World Tour is the largest tour in history! This tour is also the highest grossing concert tour ever, grossing over US$ 125 million, more than any other entertainer has ever grossed on a single tour!!!

One "Bad" concert in Yokohama, Japan in September 1987 at Yokohama Stadium was recorded by Nippon TV and later televised in many countries. Also televised was Osaka and Tokyo

During the "Bad" tour stop in Sydney, Australia, on November 20, 1987 Stevie Wonder made a surprise appearance on stage. Michael and Stevie performed "Just Good Friends" live as a special treat for the lucky fans!

On March 3, 1988 Michael performed a "private" concert at New York's Madison Square Garden. All the proceeds were donated to the United Negro College Fund. Tickets for the show could not be purchased at ticket box offices.

A special lottery system determined who was to receive tickets. During the show, Michael hit the headlines for kissing Tatiana Thumbtzen on stage during a great performance of "The Way You Make Me Feel". [Tatiana Thumbtzen is known from her appearance in Michael's "The Way You Make Me Feel" video clip].

On June 16, 1988 Michael performed a sell-out concert in Basel, Switzerland. Amongst celebrities at this show are Elizabeth Taylor and Bob Dylan. While in Basel, Michael met with Mrs. Oona Chaplin, the widow of one of Michael's all-time heroes, Charlie Chaplin. The Chaplin family moved to Vevey, Switzerland in 1953 [when they purchased the elegant Manoir de Ban on Lake Geneva], during Oona's pregnancy with their fifth child, Eugene.

On September 8, 1988 Michael received a special award by London's Wembley Stadium management for setting a new record for playing more dates at Wembley Stadium than any other artist!! His 7 sell-out concerts were attended by 504'000 people. A distinction that earned him another entry in The Guinness Book Of World Records.

During the "Bad" tour, Michael performed "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" live on stage with background singer Sheryl Crow.

At every "Bad" tour stop, during "She's Out Of My Life", one lucky girl was allowed to dance with Michael on stage.

Dangerous World Tour

By MJ net.

The "Dangerous" tour included 69 concerts to about 3.5 million loving fans.

The "Dangerous" tour is the biggest tour any performer had done, breaking his own record from his "Bad" tour [Michael will later break this record with the "HIStory" tour].

Michael donated all the proceeds from the "Dangerous" World Tour to his "Heal The World" Foundation and to other charities.

Michael sold the film rights to his "Dangerous" concert in Bucharest [Rumania] to HBO for UKŁ 12 million! The deal is the highest ever paid for a live concert. The special received the highest TV ratings in the history of HBO [21.4 % rating, 34% share]. Michael was honored with a Cable Ace Award. The Bucharest concert [performed on October 01, 1992] was broadcast live on radio and shown on TV in 61 countries. Direcor Andy Morahan, who directed "Give In To Me" used more than 14 camera operators to tape the concert.

The "Dangerous" concert in Bucharest is available on DVD on Michael Jackson's "The Ultimate Collection [Box Set]". This is the first ever Michael Jackson concert commercially available on DVD.

During the "Dangerous" tour, Michael performed "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" live on stage with duet partner Siedah Garrett.

On Dec. 30, 1992 during the "Dangerous" show at the Tokyo Dome in Japan, Slash made a special guest appearance for "Black Or White". He also joined Michael on stage for the next concert, Dec. 31, 1992 at this Special New Year's Eve Countdown Concert in Tokyo. Michael wished all his fans a Happy New Year from his changing room.

At every "Dangerous" tour stop, during "She's Out Of My Life", one lucky girl was allowed to dance with Michael on stage.

Especially the beginning of the show, the so-called "toaster", where Michael is catapulted on stage and the end of the show, where "he" jet-packs out of the stadium, hit headlines all around the world.

HIStory World Tour

By MJ NET.

Michael Jackson's "HIStory World Tour" is the biggest world tour any performer had ever done!!! The "HIStory" tour spanned the globe with stops in 56 cities, 35 countries on 5 continents, and included 82 concerts to about 4.5 million loving fans.

Michael's gold costume was designed by Gianni Versace who already designed some clothes for Michael for his "Dangerous" tour.

Michael's two "HIStory" concerts in Munich, Germany on July 4 and 6, 1997 at Olympic Stadium were recorded. The concert [containing footage of both shows] was televised by German TV-channel SAT1 and later in many other countries. Plus concerts in the following countries were recorded and later shown over network television: Bucharest [Romania] - Sept. 14, 1996, Kuala Lumpur [Malaysia] - Oct. 1996, Auckland [New Zealand] - Nov. 1996, Manila [Philippines] - Dec. 1996, Copenhagen [Denmark] - Aug. 1997, Gothenburg [Sweden] - Aug. 16, 1997 and Helsinki [Finland] - Aug. 1997.

One "HIStory" concert in Seoul, South Korea in 1996 at Chamsil Olympic Stadium was recorded and a VHS video cassette [NTSC] of this great concert was commercially released by Sony Music for the Asian market.

At every "HIStory" tour stop, during "You Are Not Alone", one lucky girl was allowed to dance with Michael on stage.

Only hours after kicking off the Australian leg of his "HIStory World Tour" on November 14, 1996 Michael married Debbie Rowe in a civil ceremony in his presidential suite at the Sheraton-on-the-Park Hotel in Sydney.

There are 160 people working on the Michael Jackson "HIStory" World Tour. In every city another 200 professional stage hands and 200 security officers are hired locally.

The logistics for such a huge show require an almost military-style organisation! In any given week, three different stages are either up, going up or coming down. Moving the custom designed steel and scaffolding requires 7 trucks per stage each weighing 200 tons which takes 3 days to build, 24 hour to set up the elements of the show [backline, lights, sound, band gear, pyro, video] and 24 hours to de-rig. Once built, the set weighs 550 tons. A further 22 trucks carry the backline, sound, lights, rigging, video, pyrotechnics and band gear. That's a total of 43 trucks carrying 1'200 tons of equipment!

1,4 million people went to the Michael Jackson HIStory tour which started in Prague on September 7, 1996. A further 2 million people are expected to come during the second leg of the tour which started in Bremen on 31st May 1997, and sales of tickets in Germany alone have already reached 500,000.
