It is a character driven drama and started with the reunion of the McLeod's half sisters after 20 years apart. The death of their father meant they both inheriated the farm known as 'Drover's Run' and Tess returned to claim her share. Also living on Drover's Run were the housekeeper Meg and her daughter Jodi. After sacking the male employees, the sisters employed a lead station hand, Becky who stayed on the farm for 2 1/2 years. The end of 2003 brought the introduction of Becky's replacement Stevie and the death of older sister Claire. 2004 will see Meg Fountain leave Drover's Run and Kate Manfredi; a new farmhand arrive.
The neighbouring property Wilgul belongs to the Ryan brothers, who's father owns another property, Killarney. Financial hardship has resulted in the boys returning to Killarney. Dave Brewer is the local vet and larrikan. His character will take on a more permanant role in 2004.
0ther characters include Harry Ryan, the patriach of the Ryan family, his wife and fellow property owner Sandra Kinsella-Ryan and Terry Dodge, Meg's longterm partner.
