CAMERON MACKINTOSH TO HOLD AUDITIONS TO FIND CHILDREN TO PLAY THE ROLE OF 'TAM' IN THE THEATRE ROYAL PLYMOUTH PRODUCTION OF MISS SAIGON
Cameron Mackintosh is producing a new production of "MISS SAIGON" and will be conducting auditions for the child role of 'Tam'.
'Tam' is the son of 'Kim', the Vietnamese heroine of "MISS SAIGON". From his first appearance in the story, 'Tam' is a central character, the catalyst that sets in motion a chain of events leading to the tragic and heartrending climax of this powerful and emotional story.
Audiences around the world have been moved by 'Kim's', passionate declaration to her son, "As long as you have your chance, I swear I'll give my life for you."
The production requires Asian or Oriental boys or girls aged between four and five with dark eyes and dark hair, no more than 95cm (3 ft) tall.
Several children will be required to play the role during the show's run at the Theatre Royal Plymouth. The children need to be bright and enthusiastic and be capable of going on stage and moving the audience.
Anyone who thinks their child would be suitable, please write, enclosing contact details and a photograph of your child wearing everyday clothing and no make-up to: Joanne Hawes, 'Tam Auditions' One Bedford Square, London WC1B 3RA or telephone 01628 773 048 for further details.
Set in 1975 during the final days leading up to the American evacuation of Saigon, "MISS SAIGON" is an epic love story about the relationship between an American GI and a young Vietnamese woman.
The new production of "MISS SAIGON" will be the largest touring musical in the UK, with a company of over 50 actors and musicians.
Fourteen years ago Cameron Mackintosh premiered Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg's epic musical "MISS SAIGON" at London's Theatre Royal Drury Lane and overnight it became a legend, running in London and on Broadway for over 10 years and in major capital cities around the world, becoming one of the most successful musicals in modern history.

Update: 14th December
The UK tour closed on the 13th of December at the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton. Ima Castro played Kim. The only understudy was Lissa Romero and Little Rachel played Tam and gave autographs at the end of the performance like a true proffesional!
Update: November
Ima Castro (who played Kim in the U.K tour) has announced her engagement to her co-star David Shannon (Chis).
Ima met David while performing Miss Saigon in Manchester and their love blossomed onstage as they worked together at the Bristol
Hippodrome every night. aid Ima in a report where she and David were featured in the front page of Bristol's Weekend Post, "David joined the company and I heard he liked me and was interested. At first, I didn't know what to do, but then I found he was really gentle and sweet and we started seeing each other. We didn't tell people straight away because we didn't want them talking about us but now that it's out in the open, I'm really happy because I can express my feelings and if I want to hold his hand, I can." Meanwhile, in the same article, David declared, "It's really lovely. We did talk about whether it would be difficult working together but it's not. In fact, it makes the show ten times easier. The biggest problem is we're not meant to be in love at the beginning so we can't be comfortable with each other. "
