One hot summers nite in 1972 in Maltildas pub in Melbourne.
Being disallutioned with things, work, the scene, I said to my mate,"It's a shame you don't have the money cause I feel like just taking off around Australia in my monaro to just get away from here.." My mate Marty replied, to my surprise,
'Guess what I have got the money to go, I just received a
payout of compansation when I turned 21 for an accident I had as a kid when I got run over.'Wow that's..great I remarked LET'S do it then. So after a while we planned our excting escape.
LETS GO !
Melbourne to Lake Hume,The anticipation all the planning, preperation waiting for the wet season to end up north ,Today's the day the adrenaline was pumping at long last .....
We left late afternoon late April 1972 for the full drive around oz, a straight
trip to Benalla it was twilight so we had the lights on a pit stop for refreshments about to leave when a member of the local constabulary pulls us ver for having an odd number of lights ,we had a centre quartz haleogen
spotter he informed us that it had to have a pair and be around 16 inches apart minimum as I recall , He booked us on the spot nice man, I don't think he has ever been to far North Queensland he should see the aircraft single
driving lights there on the utes, A slow start costly now on to Wodonga then anovernight stop at lake Hume, pretty cold night..Lake Hume through the Alpine way to Mt Kosiousko even colder that nightnow on to Sydney,The monaro was cruising we were loving it the freedomof hitting the road...
Arrived late in Sydney to tired to put up the tent so I parked in a side street
