Bio Sketch of Minister Robert Muhammad

Minister Robert Muhammad is the minister of Muhammad Mosque No. 45 in Houston, Texas. He currently serves as the Southwest Regional Minister and local representative and aide to the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam.

BACKGROUND

Minister Robert was born in Suffern, New York. The youngest of three children, he was raised in Harlem. Growing up in New York during the turbulent sixties afforded him an opportunity to see the widespread influence and work of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad through his most famous students, Malcolm X and Minister Louis Farrakhan. Although Minister Robert did not join the Nation of Islam until 1975, he admired the members of the Nation of Islam for their numerous businesses and the security the brothers selling the Muhammad Speaks newspaper, on the street corners, provided to his elderly grandparents who lived around the corner from the world famous Mosque No. 7 in Harlem.

Minister Robert first met The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan in 1976 while still a student at Hampton University. Minister Farrakhan spent two days in Hampton, Virginia by invitation of the university's Student Government Association. Minister Robert personally observed Minister Farrakhan's sincere love for the students and his genuine commitment to the upliftment of Black people from their dead spiritual, economic, and political state. Those two days would change Minister Robert's life forever. However, because of changes in the leadership and direction of the Nation of Isalm, Minister Robert became inactive in the movement. He would not see or hear from The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan again until 1984.

Minister Robert received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 1978. In 1980, he moved to Houston, Texas, to pursue a career in Banking and Finance. Four years later, he saw Minister Farrakhan on television, urging people to support the presidential candidacy of the Reverend Jesse Jackson. Minister Robert joined the campaign and went to the Texas Democratic Convention as a delegate from Senatorial District 13. It was there that he met the Muslim brothers from Muhammad Mosque No. 45 who were aiding Minister Farrakhan in the rebuilding the Nation of Islam. He rejoined the movement that year and rose through the ranks to be chosen as the Minister of Mosque No. 45 in July, 1987.

Minister Robert has a wide range of work experience with duties including, but not limited to, conducting religious services and business meetings, providing couseling and referral for substance abuse, criminal rehabilitation, health awareness, family relations, and self-improvement; promoting moral and educational excellence, economic development, and community pride.

Minister Robert Muhammad's stated purpose is to promote the religion of Islam, as taught by the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad and the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan. He advocates spiritual and moral excellence; drug, alcohol, and criminal rehabilitation; educational reform; strong family values; economic self-sufficiency; community pride; and self-improvement.
