With these types of business often changing hands it is not unlikely that the new people having taken over know nothing about the history of the place, or that it is reputedly haunted. In certain states of the U.S this would not be allowed, even though science cannot prove in the existence of ghosts it would be classed as a non-disclaimer not to report paranormal activity. Not everyone would like to live in haunted property and so this information is not always passed on to the new tenant.
However, there are those who thrive on a trade from advertising the haunting, perhaps in some cases not always being what it seems. It is very easy to put some natural occurence down to ghosts and blame non-existent spirits.
