The Conductor
As I arise to the music stand-
on my right is the piano grand.
I take the conductor's wand in hand-
preparing for my harmonies planned.
A pleasing look at my accompanist-
a knowing nod, as I raise my wrist.
Anticipation--we had long awaited-
replaced by "Ethearal Tones" related.
Animated are the faces
of my singers in their places.
Splendorous music fills the hall,
taken in by old and small.
The wonderous power of music heard
from all who listened--not a word.
When the final chord engaged,
and silence came with the downward wand-
applause began to make it's way-
from back to front--up on the stage.
As, now, I think of all our practice-
sacrifice and preparation-
how pleased I was, with our reception!!
