Pontoon Dock is opposite the Thames Barrier Park and is going to be the subject of much interest over the coming years with over £1 billion of investment in the area including the new national aquarium and the addition of various residential, commercial and leisure developments. Not to mention the enormous impact of the London 2012 Olympics. The whole area between the Royal Victoria Dock and the Thames has been designated the "Arc of Opportunity" and Pontoon Dock is destined to become the new town centre of the Royal Docks. Current high quality developments completed in the area include Barrier Point, Tradewinds, Capital East, Western Beach and Eastern Quay. Pontoon Dock will have its own Docklands Light Railway station in 2005 when the DLR extension to London City Airport is complete. This will provide journey times to Bank in around 20 minutes and Canary Wharf in 12 minutes. Also close by will be the Royals Business Park (Phase 1 complete July 2004) and the new Thames Gateway Bridge. Pontoon Dock is also on the route of the London Crossrail project which will bring even better transport infastructure to the area. Pending funding decisions, Crossrail is likely to open by 2013.
