For a while now I’ve been trying to come up with a page to offer the site regarding pregnancy in IH. There is a sufficient amount of information out there regarding the onset of IH while pregnant, but very little regarding what happens when you want to, or you do, become pregnant while diagnosed with IH. Where to find the information? What better source than our members!

Read a bit about other IH'ers experiences during pregnancy by accessing the pages below. To add your own information, you can either copy/paste the questionnaire at the bottom of this page or send your experience in a narrative format to habanno@comcast.net, with "IH and Pregnancy" in the subject line.

Visit Our Mom's to be! page for a current (and past) list of pregnant IH'ers. Please add your own information here, and be sure to come back and give us an update!

IH and Pregnancy Articles

I will continue to add information as we go along. I hope this will at least answer some of your questions, or help you understand from other members experiences. Please remember - we are not Physicians and cannot decide whether or not it's safe for you to become pregnant. This is a decision only you can make with the guidance of your family, and Doctors.

           The Questionnaire

  1. When you're pregnant, what are your biggest concerns?
(Both without IH and with IH).
  2. If you have been pregnant with IH, what treatments, if any, where you able to continue? (This applies to all meds - pain
and meds such as Diamox, as well as LP's and shunts).
  3. What treatments needed to be modified?
  4. If you have been pregnant with IH, how would you rate the overall pregnancy, in terms of "ease" (if there is such a thing!). Please rate
on a 1-10 scale, 1 being the easiest, 10 being very difficult.
(Remember, in relation to IH and associated symptoms/conditions).
  5. Have you had children prior to IH diagnosis? Was that pregnancy the same, easier, or more difficult?
  6. Did you experience remission while pregnant? Were your IH symptoms less noticeable, or were you more aware of them?
  7. If you experienced an ease in symptoms during your pregnancy, did
they develop again after giving birth? If they did, how long after delivery did they develop?
  8. If you've answered the above questions (you were pregnant with IH), how was the baby delivered? (Example, C-Section).
  9. How many people (this applies to everyone), were advised they
couldn't or shouldn't get pregnant with IH? What was the reasoning
    for this advice?
  10. Would you have another baby with IH (without thought to cost or situation - would you do it again?)
  11. What advice and tips would you offer someone who becomes pregnant with IH? Someone considering it?

If you would like to submit your response to these pages, or share your experience (without the questions), please email the information to habanno@comcast.net.
