Okay....first off...nothing against Newbies here....I was a newbie once...heck, we were all newbies once...
But I became an educated Newbie....the goal here is to help everyone become educated newbies :)

Note: this is just purely from what I know, which essentially is not alot. You too, will come to know that no one fan knows more about t.A.T.u. than the other. Actually, when answering any question about t.A.T.u. - YOUR GUESS IS JUST AS GOOD AS MINE. Like another fan in the forum said - READ UP ON THE GIRLS, THEN MAKE UP YOUR OWN MIND ABOUT IT, BECAUSE NO ONE HAS THE ANSWERS - well, except maybe for t.A.T.u. and Company.

I'm just a dedicated fan trying to help other fans :)

t.A.T.u. Frequently Asked Questions

1. Are the girls of t.A.T.u. lesbian/gay/homosexual/bisexual/straight?

The answer is.....WE HAVE NO CLUE. They have stated that they LOVE EACH OTHER. Whether or not that means that they are IN LOVE - well, we don't know. Some fans believe that the girls are so obscure about this issue for a couple of reasons : (1) by nature of contract/management, or (2) because they don't conform to society's labels and refuse to be recognized as such. If you go and read articles on fansites, you will find that they answer this question with many different answers, sometimes contradicting themselves or what they said previously. It's up to you to decide what to believe, for this is, after all, a very personal question.

2. What does Taty/Tatu/t.A.T.u. mean?

Okay. Just remember we are talking about the same group. 'Taty' was the name the were under when they first formed and became public in Russia. 'Taty' is supposedly a wordplay on the phrase 'Ta Lyubit Tu' - which means 'this girl loves that girl'. 'Taty' is pronounced in english 'Tatu' (tattoo). Also, there is another possibility of the meaning of 'Taty'. Some say that in Russian, 'Taty' is short for the russian word for 'tattoo' which is 'tatyirovka'.

Then, with the signing of contracts with Universal Music Russia and Interscope Records for their english-crossover, the gals learned that there already exists a band with their same name (this band is an Australian band called "Taty"). So...you can't have two groups with the same name. Thus, the gals had to change their group name to the current 't.A.T.u.'. No one knows if this new name is an abbreviation for something.

For now, most fans still prefer to call them 'Taty' or 'Tatu', and the gals themselves have also pronounced their new name by spelling it out, letter for letter - 'T - A - T - U'. Recently, in a few interviews, Lena and Yulia revealed that they prefer to be called 'Taty', and insist they will always be 'Taty' despite their name being 't.A.T.u.' (in the West).

3. Which one is which, and where can I learn more about them?

t.A.T.u. is comprised of two teens:

4. How can I contact Lena Katina or Julia Volkova?

It is known that the gals do not have computers at home. They only go online when they are at their record company's office/or manager's office.
But, their e-mail addresses are still available:

I don't think they will answer mail. They have visited this forum (tatugirls.com) several times though and they have sent some private messages to fans (on this forum) in the past, and present.
