"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.
You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours,
faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart.
You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion." - Unknown
Interested in adopting a REGAP of Illinois Greyhound?
What is our ADOPTION PROCESS?
We adopt greyhounds to homes in Illinois.
Your first step in the adoption process is to fill out our application and mail it to:

A week after mailing the adoption application, please call Mona at 815-538-3647 to set up an appointment to see the greyhounds available for adoption. We don't choose your greyhound for you, you choose your own greyhound (or as we say "the greyhound chooses you"). Once you have decided on your greyhound, usually a male greyhound can be in your home within a week and a female greyhound can be in your home within two weeks. You need to plan on making two trips to the farm. The first visit is to bring everyone who lives in your home to choose your greyhound and sit down for the two hour interview. The second visit is to bring your greyhound home.
We don't use the foster process because it is very simple to teach a greyhound the rules of the house and wouldn't you rather the greyhound learn your rules of the house instead of someone else's? The only time we prefer to foster is if a greyhound is returned from a home and we feel the greyhound would do better in a foster home instead of a kennel.
We have decided, in the best interest of the greyhound and the family, not to adopt to new families who have children under the age of 5 years living in their home.
We do adopt to homes that do not have a fenced yard. In this circumstance, you must agree that you will always walk your greyhound on a leash, your greyhound will never be "tied out", you understand that invisible fences DO NOT work with greyhounds, and the greyhound will be let off lead only when he or she is in an entirely enclosed fenced area.
Please contact Mona Moore for more information at 815-538-DOGS. Our adoption fee is $175 which includes spay/neuter, vaccinations, heartworm screen, worming, tick fever panel, dental and grooming. We also micro-chip all greyhounds which has a $10 activation fee. Please call ahead of time to make an appointment to see the dogs available for adoption.
Occasionally, we have a waiting list for small animal friendly greyhounds. If you have small animals in your home, please mail in your application and we will add your name to the waiting list. We will phone you when you are next on the list.
REGAP of Illinois reserves the right to decline any adoption at its discretion.

GREYHOUNDS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION If you would like to see pictures of the Greyhounds that are ready for adoption, please click on the link above or go to "Dogs for Adoption!". To see the comments about each dog as well as availability, please either click on the photo or make sure that the photos are displayed in "list view" not in "grid view" (upper right on photo album page). We will keep this updated for prospective adopters. Check out the Adoption Day Photos. We also want you to see how proud we all are of our kids!
There is a printable copy of the adoption application under Documents. Due to restrictions of MSN Groups, only members can view this document. If you would like to receive the application document and are not a member, you can go to our sister website www.regapgreyhounds.org to print the application or you can email greytmom@foxvalley.net and greyhounds4us@comcast.net and request it. (We ask that you send your request to both email boxes in case one of us is unavailable.) The application is in PDF format (Adobe Acrobat Reader) and is approximately 220 KB.
"until one has known and loved a Greyhound, a part of ones soul remains unawakened"
Old dogs, like old shoes, are comfortable. They might be a bit
out of shape and a little worn around the edges, but they fit well."
--Bonnie Wilcox 'Old Dogs, Old Friends'
Blessed is the person who has earned the love of an old dog.
