How I Began

When I was just 4 years old I watched the Olympics on TV and saw the 1996 US Gymnastics team win Gold...it was so exciting and I pretended I was one of the gymnasts with the gold medal.  At that time I started to beg to go ice skating and to do gymnastics.  I was always an active kid.  When I was just a baby my mom caught me climbing over the stairway barrier.      When my brothers were playing football games, I would be climbing the railings in the stands to everyone's absolute fear!  My mom would chase me back and forth along the yards at the back of the stands while the games would be going on.  I even ran four times around the football field one time without stopping and laughing the entire way.  I had energy and more!
I climbed on anything and everything.  No one could stop my climbing.  I don't think I ever crawled...I went straight to walking...or should I say running.  I have always been someone on the go.  Anyway, after much begging to be in gymnastics and skating, my mom enrolled me in a local gymnastics class.  It was very expensive for her but she did everything she could to get me to a place where I could climb, run or just basically bounce around.

I still begged her to ice skate but she didn't want to sit in the cold rink.  Finally, when I was 7 1/2 years old she took me to the ice rink for a public session.  It was a really hot summer day out and we wanted to get cool.  I was so excited when my mom and I laced up our skates and took the first step on the ice.  But, Bammmmm, down I went and I took my mom down too.  She broke her elbow and told me I was on my own.  Well, I wanted to skate so I was determined to get out there.  I didn't want to hang on the wall so I just went for it.
I saw the good skaters out in the middle doing spins and jumps and so I went out to try to do what they were doing.  I loved it!  And, I have been addicted to the ice ever since.  It wasn't long before I was in the Learn to Skate program.  I started with privates after just a couple lessons and in 3 months I skated my first competition, receiving a 3rd place!  And that's how it started.
