Sutton Bridge

Sutton Bridge is a small town in the Lincolnshire Fens.

It is on the boundary of three counties- Lincolnshire, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire and has the busy A17 by passing the town which then heads eastwards over Crosskeys Bridge and into Kings Lynn and Norfolk or westwards towards Spalding and Sleaford.

The town itself is in a predominantly rural area with many arable farms.

Premier Foods is a major employer in the area and also many other vegetable processing companies and of course transport companies which are plentiful as they are needed to transfer all the crops and food out of the area.

The whole of this area is extremely flat due to it being gradually reclaimed from the sea over many years. The soil which is left behind is perfect for the growing of crops.

Sutton Bridge does not have a lot to offer regarding shopping. It is well served by convenience stores, fish and chip shops, public houses, pharmacy, a new health centre,  petrol station etc.... but for any other shopping you have to travel to either Kings Lynn, which is a beautiful, historic town.  Wisbech or Spalding. The town has good public transport links to all nearby towns. Some people prefer to travel to Peterborough if they are used to all the top stores.

A new community centre will soon be built in Sutton Bridge and a waterside marina is also planned.

It is hoped this will encourage new investors in the area.

Many new residents are from the south of England and many new bungalows are being constucted to cope with the demand as people retire to the countryside.

Crime is relatively low in the area which makes this a pleasant area to live in.

The Crosskeys swing bridge is fascinating. It often has to swing to allow the passage of ships along the River Nene through to the port at Wisbech. It is amazing to watch this wonderful 109 year old bridge swing so effortlessly and is well worth going to watch at least once.

The river is tidal and so the water level rises and falls twice daily. When the tide is low, the banks of the river tend to look very muddy and not pleasant, yet when the tide is high, it looks beautiful.
