THE BRIDGE HOTEL

The Bridge Hotel is situated just off the west bank of the River Nene and has recently undergone renovation after falling into a state of disrepair.

I acquired an old brochure of the Bridge Hotel from the days when the Hotels' 'phone number was simply 222

BRIDGEHOTEL.jpg

In it's heyday when the picture below was taken ( I assume in the 1930's due to the cars), it claimed to be the most modernised hotel in the eastern counties with a well furnished cocktail bar and adjoining ballroom which can accomodate upto 200 guests, smoke room with many interesting features and two inter-communicating lounges.

The brochure states that the dining room is well appointed and beautifully decorated in cream.

The bedrooms have all been refurbished in the same style with hot and cold water and Dunlopillo mattresses in each room

The caption for the picture below, says;

The Bridge Hotel is situated within easy reach of the Saltings of the Wash and East Anglia. These Saltings provide ideal feeding for all the wildfowl seen round these parts, notably Mallard, Widgeon and Teal, Snipe and White-fronted and Pink-Footed Geese.

Mr Mackenzie Thorpe, a local inhabitant and expert on the habits of all wildfowl, and will endeavour to assist all sportsmen staying at the Bridge Hotel to find a good morning or evening flight.

A novel use for the railings at the Bridge Hotel

At the back of the Brochure, it says

    • FISHING: Good fresh water fishing on middle level
    • BATHING: Good facilities within easy reach
    • SHOOTING: As mentioned, kennels provided
    • GOLF: 9 hole course within 100 yards of hotel
    • BOATING: Good mooring close by Hotel
    • STATION: Three minutes' walk from Hotel

The Bridge Hotel is in the heart of the tulip lands, and easily accessible for all bulb and fruit growing areas of South Lincolnshire.

This picture was taken by myself in October 2005 from the riverbank

If anyone can tell me anything else about the Hotel, especially when it was built and opened, dates of my photo's especially when the photo of the ivy covered hotel was taken or any other information...Please start a thread on the message board titled Bridge Hotel. Thanks, Lyn

Since the renovations, The Bridge Hotel is once again building up a reputation for good accomodation and fine food.

If you should visit the Bridge Hotel, please write a review of your meal and/or accomodation and post it on the message boards. The hotels telephone number is (01406) 359 332

I have recently discovered the new website of the Bridge Hotel, with fantastic pictures since it's renovation. Please take a look http://www.bridge-hotel.net/
