Story: First, scan or download your pictures and save them in a folder on your "C" drive. Click on "Join Now" in the upper left hand corner of this page. That will take you to a page where you can "Get a Passport". You may want to think about setting up an email address at Hotmail to use for registering - it's free and keeps your primary email address private. Enter your nickname, password and email address. Once you have your Passport and have joined the community, go to the "Pictures" page and click "Create a New Album". From there, just choose a name for your album, click "Add Photos", upload the required "MSN photo upload control" software and load your scanned pics into the photo album. It's really easier to do than it is to read about doing!!
Each "Passport" is allowed is 3MB storage. I've got 38 pictures posted and have used 1.1MB of my space, so 3MB should allow about 100 - 110 pictures. Of course, if I use that up, I can get another passport using a different nickname and email address and post more. Also, using a higher or lower "dpi" when scanning can lower or raise the number of photos you can post. I think I scanned mine at 75; it reduces the quality a little, but doesn't use as much space or take as long to upload. When scanning photos for the web 75dpi is normally what you should use as that is the standard for web photos. If you want to increase it you can use 100 but you really do not gain anything.
Most of the photo scanning/processing software allows you to save your photos in a variety of formats and for photos, you will generally find that .jpeg or .jpg formats work the best for saving file size space. The smaller the file size the faster it will download. In many cases you will find that a full screen photo scanned at 75 dpi and using the jpeg compression format will have a file size of well under 50k.
