Why do some stones disappear and why to some seem to call to me?
Well, this is simple! When you go out to buy crystals, your first impression is how they look and then how they feel after picking the up the one that is calling you. Some will get hot or cold in your hands. Some will even pulsate or throb. Usually, I find that if these sensors are REALLY noticeable, then that is the stone or crystal that you need to have for it's metaphysical or healing qualities. Sometimes, if you purchase the stones and use them for a while after you take them home, they will just disappear or get "lost." Don't be surprised when this happens. When you no longer need the stone, it will just leave..and either go back to the Earth, be picked up and used by someone else who needs it...or be "lost" simply to be found again when you need the metaphysical quality of the stone later. I have lost tons of favorite stones in the past, only to find them months later, stuck in the lining of my purse, under the bed or rolling around at the bottom of a shoebox. If this happens, it is just meant to BE! I think sometimes these stones and crystals have to go into a dormant state and not used at all, maybe it is a way for the energies to REST...and this is what happens when the stone is " lost" or hanging out in a dark place for months or years.
Meditating with the Stones:
I call using the combinations of stones together for meditating, "Crystal Cocktails." There are endless combinations of stones and by using different ones together for meditation one can bring several metaphysical properties together for amplification. For instance, a clear quartz increases the metaphysical properties of ANY stone that you are working with. Citrine increases communication, very good to work with when you want the power of speech or need to sign documents. I like to work with the stones that are representative of the energies of my astrological Sun Sign. Others kinds I use for meditation depending on what I need to work on at that moment. I love to meditate and meet my spirit guides and the cocktail that helps me to get there is a Moldavite, Herkimer Diamonds, Boji Stones and Fluorite all together. I lay down in the Dead Man's pose (yoga) and hold the stones in my hands. The stones get hot, especially the Moldavite and my meditation actually becomes trancelike. Everyone can figure out what works for them best for meditation, this is very subjective, so whatever is right for YOU is correct! Explore, experiment and DO! Spend some time in the store just touching the stones and the ones you are meant to have will tell you, literally leap out of the containers that they are in or "call" to you.
How to clean and clear your stones:
The best way to clean and clear your stones is by using some burning white sage and wafting it over the stones or by charging them by leaving them under the noontime Sun or out in the light of the Full Moon as it peaks. Another way is to charge the stones at some holy vortex. I, personally, have charged some of my favorite stones and crystals near one of the pyramids at Tulum, Mexico on a sunny day. Some people suggest clearing stones and crystals by soaking them overnight in salt water. I do not think that this is an especially good method as many stones are porous and are made even more porous by the artificially altering of their surfaces by cutting, dying or tumbling before they are sold to the stores. I do not advise leaving ANY crystals or stones in salt water for any length of time. You can, however, store them in sea salt. Most gourmet or health food stores sell inexpensive sea salt in bulk. This is a really good and cheap method to keep your stones purified, cleared and energized all the time.
What stones are REAL and what stones are not?
Unfortunately, it is hard to tell most of the time. Sometimes you are getting dyed howlite or jasper instead of that beautiful turquoise or bloodstone that you need for meditation and healing. A good rule of thumb to follow is, if the color is too brilliant, the stone has probably been dyed and then tumbled to get that shiny surface. After it has been tumbled, it is hard to see if it is a genuine gemstone or not. It is always good to go to a reputable dealer of stones...or a good metaphysical shop that refuses to compromise by selling the fake stuff and KNOWS what they are selling. It is very easy to get ripped off even if you are dealing with a wholesaler. Go with what you know! If you know a dealer and are sure he sells the real thing, then always buy from him. I buy only from one person who is a wholesaler but deals to the public also and he is here in my local area. He is not Pagan or Wiccan but he literally knows EVERYTHING about what he sells, even the metaphysical properties of the stones.
