Peter Parker/Spider-man
Peter is a nerdy high school student who is bitten by a genetically altered spider while on a school field trip to a research laboratory, after he returns home feeling ill he falls asleep and awakens with superpowers, he discovers his ability to web-sling quite by accident while in school, he has super fast reflexes and finds he no longer needs to use his glasses as his vision is perfect.After winning a wrestling match and letting a robber get away with the promoter's cash he finds his beloved Uncle Ben dying after being shot by the same robber, who has stolen his car, Peter goes after the robber using his new found powers and there starts his double life as a superhero and regular guy.
Homer Wells
Homer Wells is an orphan, born and raised at St. Clouds orphanage by Dr Wilbur Larch and the two nurses Angela and Edna, he is taught how to be of use by Dr Larch who teaches him in obstetrics and gynaecology, expecting him to take over from him when the time comes, Homer has other ideas, after meeting Candy Kendall and Wally Worthington who come to the orphanage for an abortion, after hearing about Wally's flying career Homer decides he wants to leave St. Clouds and see the world, leaving with Candy and Wally, Homer starts work in Wally's Mother's orchard picking apples, when Wally goes back to war Homer and Candy become close, Homer falls in love for the first time and they embark on an affair, Homer hears the news that Dr Larch has died following an overdose of ether and is torn between staying at the cider house or returning to St. Clouds, when Wally is injured and has to return home, Homer decides it is time for him to return to St. Clouds and carry on with Larch's work.
Jake Roedel

Jake Roedel is is a young man living in the midst of the American Civil War,born in Germany but brought up in Missouri, he joined the Confederate sympathazing Bushwackers with his best friend Jack Bull Chiles after witnessing the murder of Jack's father by Unionist Jayhawkers.They ride with other Bushwackers fighting the cause, Jake gets shot twice in skirmishes, once losing his little finger and the second time in the leg by another Bushwacker Pitt Mackeson, who had taken a dislike to Jake, after Jack Bull Chiles dies after being fatally injured Jake takes his friend's girl Sue Lee Shelley to a safe place with a sympathizing family, when he and Holt return some months later Sue Lee has had a child, the family assume Jake is the father and bring a vicar to marry the pair, after the marriage has taken place Jake, Sue Lee and the baby leave in a covered wagon along with Holt, but not until after Jake has had all his long Bushwacker hair cut off, he said he would have it cut off after he was finished with the war, Holt stays with them until Jake encounters Pitt Mackeson again, after he leaves Holt says his goodbyes and leaves the family to go and find his mother.
David Wagner/ Bud Parker

David Wagner is a typical teenage boy who happens to be obsessed with a '50's tv show called Pleasantville, one night he's looking forward to watching the Pleasantville marathon, his sister Jennifer however has other ideas, she wants to watch a concert on a different channel, they fight over the TV remote control and it gets broken, they then hear a knock on the door and a TV repairman is standing there,he gives them a new remote control and after he leaves they fight over it again, while they are fighting they end up in the show, David is now Bud Parker and Jennifer is Mary Sue, he fits in straight away but she doesn't, David/Bud tries to keep his sister from upsetting the balance with her 90's attitude, it doesn't work and when things start changing into coloured instead of black and white David/Bud knows it has something to do with Jen/Mary Sue,eventually the colours spread to some of the residents and the black and white characters reject them, David/Bud tries to open the resident's minds to the change but they want him and Mr Johnson put in jail for encouraging the people to embrace the new colours, when they go to court David/Bud argues with the mayor to change his mind about the colours, when everyone in court starts changing he confronts the mayor until he too changes to colour, when it is accepted by everyone that colours are part of Pleasantville, David/Bud decides it is time for him and Jen/Mary Sue to go back home, she decides to stay and so David/Bud returns home alone.
James Leer
James is a gifted writing student, constantly put down and belittled by his fellow students, he suffers from bouts of depression and lies compulsively, James is also obsessed with Hollywood suicides, his novel “The Love Parade” reflects his own life, his unconventional childhood and search for love, his tutor, Grady Tripp befriends him after finding him outside the Wordfest , cap-gun in hand, they go on a kind of journey of self discovery together which involves the shooting of the Chancellor’s dog and the theft of Marilyn Monroe’s jacket by James.
Red Pollard
Red Pollard is a young man with a love for horses, he made his way through life prize fighting and riding in minor races, not doing well at either, with only a bag full of books for company he travelled from place to place riding and fighting until one day Tom Smith saw him fending off a gang of stable-hands, he immediately knew Red would be able to handle the volatile temperament of Seabiscuit, the racehorse owned by Charles Howard, after introducing the young man and the horse they took to training Seabiscuit to win, Red was the over-sized Jockey with the under-sized horse that took a nation by storm, they started winning races, emerging from obscurity to become the nations favourite.
