| REPTILE INFORMATION REPTILE MESSAGE BOARDS Reptiles make great pets because they are clean, interesting and relatively easy to maintain in captivity. Some lizards such as Iguanas, Anolis, and Geckos require a minimum amount of maintenance and care. An aquarium is the standard in housing along with a dependable heat source, staple diet, vitamin and mineral supplements, assorted hard woods, stones and reference books, these are some of the things that make up the basics. When it comes to food some species of lizard are carnivorous and enjoy a solid meal of insects, and small animals, while others are strictly vegetarian. All reptiles need water in some form and because of this some terrariums require more maintenance. Creatures like snakes and turtles have additional requirements when it comes to food and care.
All reptiles should be given vitamin supplements such as Terra-fauna Reptical and Vitalife. Turtles are interesting pets unlike most reptiles they are very active and entertaining if cared for and housed properly. They don't require live food like most other reptiles. Many turtles in captivity can live very long lives. Most turtle species thrive in the company of at least one other member of their species. Snakes are frequently kept reptiles. There are many species to choose from. The three most commonly kept are Rat Snakes, Corn Snakes, and Common Boas. Raised under proper conditions snakes do very well in captivity. Temperature requirements are roughly 70 F at night and 90 F to 100 F during the day. Snakes are strictly carnivorous and live on a diet of small warm-blooded creatures throughout their lives whereas lizards need variety in their diet. Common Green Iguana is one of the most popular lizards. These creatures are very easy to care for because of their simple diet that consists of a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. We would also suggest a good paste diet such as Fluker's Iguana Diet. A good vitamin supplement such as Vitalife, to give necessary vitamins. Assorted Requirements for your Reptile -
