Boldon Community Association

The Association was founded in 1972 by a consortium consisting of South Tyneside Borough Council, the local community, The Coal Industry Social Welfare Organisation and Boldon Comprehensive School. Their aim was to provide the area with facilities that could be used "from the cradle to the grave" in the pursuit of education for life. Gone were the days of the schools being regarded as being forbidding institutions only for the use of children.

Under this arrangement the public would have access to facilities which were primarily intended for the use of the school and the school would have access to additional facilities provided by the Local Authority and the Coal Industry Social Welfare Organisation.

Bernard Abrahart, the Head Master, was to be in overall charge and the first Warden was Barry Storey who was at that time of his appointment the sports master in the School.
