Is it true that female Black dragons (BD’s) often turn on their mates during mating?
YES! Female BD’s are known for their tendency to get irritable and snappy during mating. Males often rumble to the females and check every so often during mating that they are completely happy. If the female growls, fidgets, shuffles or hisses the male quickly dismounts and backs of. Females will turn for reasons unknown, sometimes though it is the male taking to long, making to many clicking or purring sounds, or simply because she is not used to mating. Injuries that often occur when males misjudge the females temperaments are leg bites, snout bites and also if the male is very unlucky and to slow to get away, bites to his testacies. After the mating has taken place, the female with return to her normal temperament.
Even though it was said that dragons pair for life or go from mate to mate, I have heard of ‘mating pods’ is this true and if so what does it mean? This is true, a mating pod is a collection of breeding does (up to 8) and one male. At the mating grounds the male will send a special rumble that hits ultra sound telling the females of his proposal. If the females like the idea, they will collect near him in a circle, all making their own special sound (for does it is a high clicking noise). The male will then take each female (that is in the circle and is emitting the sound) separately, and perform mating with them the same way he would as if he only had one doe (the flydive technique). After all have been mated, he will lead them all to his cave, where he will protect them and continue to court them, bringing them each stones food and gifts. When the dragonets are born he will look after them as well, and the does will also take care of each others young if the other young’s mother is out hunting or is killed. This happens rarely and often only bucks who own a clan will do this. It insures his bloodline will be in the next generation of dragons and that he can create large amounts of young in short spaces of time. The mating pod will remain together for as long as the does have interest in the male (and visa versa) and that the does remain fertile and remain submissive to the male.
do both sexes have cloacas? (single opening for mating/excretion)
only females have this, males have a penis
What do dragons have that make them unable to be classified (Aves, Mammals, reptiles etc)?
Dragons are unable to be classified due to all the features that have! Some are bird like, some mammal like and some retile or even insect like! Here are some features:
WARM BLOODED
Have air sacs that act like bellows, allowing gaseous exchange to occur efficiently for better flight
A large sternum – for attachment of large flight muscles
Ribs have projections – uncinate process – provide support
Lightweight bones – honeycomb structure
Lightweight skull
Fusion of some of the vertebrae – keeps body rigid in flight
They never shed, something ALL reptiles do, they just grow like mammals
Can lay eggs or live birth, depending on the species of dragon
Can have scales, feathers, fur or leather skin
Have a high metebolic rate but don’t need to eat a lot to keep it up (this is unique and only happens in dragons, most animals have to eat loads if the metabolic rate is high)
They are truly amazing animals, and more is being found out every day (curtsey of SORUS Corp) they will never be placed in a existing order (mammal, Aves, reptiles) because they are a mix of all!
Can size veration happen??
Yes it can, but the dragons can only be SMALLER than the species correct size, not larger! this means a bd dragon can be human size, dog size, classic size or just under bd size! There is only 5 exceptions to this rule, and they are all from the same family of dragons, the size genes cannot be inherted anymore. Hybrids vary in size but are never larger than the parents types.
examples of hybrid size veration:
1.
father - god dragon
Mother - classic dragon
young - can be god size or any size under god, not larger than god.
2.
father - classic
Mother - marsh
young - can be classic dragon size or any size under classic, not larger than classic.
in short the dragon can be any size other than larger than its biggest parents size!
How good is dragon eyesight?
Dragons eyesight, is over 10 times better than a falcons. They can see all levels of the light spectrum, have great nightvison, and great underwater vision too! It has also been suggested some species such as Goddess dragons, can see other dragons emotions! (the dragons will give off a colour that co-insides with its emotion, red for anger, white for relaxed etc)
