July 8, 2000 Late Saturday night, after the UFO 2000 conference had wrapped up for the day, James and his buddy Tim stood in a field about a block from the conference hall and watched a glowing white orb shoot across the sky from west to east, then reappear to the south and race straight toward them.
"Then it sort of hovered, and went up in the air 'til it disappeared," he said. "It was a Saturn ship ... you know, like a sphere with a ring around the middle." For the Record Listen to this live Report "sound recording, night of sighting" Witness Name: James H. Baker Date of Sighting: Saturday July 8, 2000 @ 11:30pm- m.s.t. Sighting Location: St.Paul Overnight Trailer Park, St Paul, Alberta, Canada
Witness Observation: The First Fly-By Listen to this live Report "sound recording made the night of sighting"
I first saw a glowing orb of white light moving from the west to east with my naked eye. It was much bigger than a satellite and much brighter than a planet. I had set up my camera with a 300mm f4 lens with 10x 50 binoculars piggybacked on a tripod. I immediately started my stopwatch and was able to track this object with my binoculars and camera. I took 4 frames of this over the 1minute 48 seconds that I timed the object. The total time it was visible is probably just over two minutes. The object dipped down as it faded off in the east; otherwise it had the typical arc of a satellite. Through the magnification of the binoculars you could see this very bright round white light with a line or ring like effect. It looked like Saturn. Second Approach Listen to this live Report "sound recording made live at the time of sighting" Approximately 2 minutes later it reappears in the south. It is moving towards us (speed same as first sighting) then slows down to a crawl almost becoming stationary. Then it climbs straight up (slowly) and fading off until it disappears into space. This time I was too busy with the camera too think of starting my stopwatch but I estimate it was about 1 minute. Other Witnesses: Chad Myer and Tim Imery two other people I had just met at the UFO convention that were camping just across from me. Chad was the first one to see them he also had a pair of binoculars. See Attachment for a copy of their notes taken that night Object(s) Size: Pencil held at arms length @ brightest fading to pin point Object(s) altitude: Upper aptmosphere Object(s) Flight Path: East to west on first fly by. south to north till just before zenith on second sighting Astronomical Objects: First Quarter Moon in South SW Sum stars Hi Light Pollution Weather: Clear with light scattered cloud around low on horizon no wind Viewing Aids: 10x 50 binoculars, Canon F1-300mm f4Lens Physical Effects: no Psychological Effects: excited Other Unusual Effects: It should be noted that I had been expecting to see them. This is why I had my camera & binocular set up. I have had this feeling on several of my other sightings Effects on Other Witnesses: unknown Other Experiences: Yes I have had several other experiences Additional notes: The above report was made prior to listening to the tape recording I had made during the second flight. Or reading the notes made by the other two witnesses. It is interesting to note that my estimate of time between sittings was much shorter than indicated by the tape. I gave the time at the end of the second sighting as 11:44 on the tape and at the end of the first sighting 11:35 making it 9 minutes not 2 minutes that I estimated or 5 minutes like Tim said in his report. The total time for the second sitting by timing it on the tape is 1minute and 35 seconds. Add 15 sec. to find my recorder and turn it on you get total time of around 2min not 1 min as I said in my report. In addition I make reference to it definitely moving much slower in the second sighting than the first on the tape, but in the report I say it was moving at about the same speed. | | | Computer Drawing By James Baker | Computer Drawing By James Baker of what it looked like to me through my 10x binoculars. What I saw looked three dimensional, like a ball of light. It had form; it was not just a flat disk of light. The ring around the ball was lighter in brightness. I think the reason the image was not picked up is that it was shot on a 300mm lens @ f4-125 seconds with ISO 200 color print film. Photos: Yes it's no smoking gun. The photos were disappointing in the amount of detail obtained compared to what I was seeing in the binoculars . We do not see the ring effect in the photographic images. | | | | Image #1 moving from the west to the east shows an elongated image I believe this may be caused from motion blur as the object crossed the field of view. | Photo #2 is taken moving straight towards us making it a curricular ball of light its too bad the lighter ring effect is not visible on the film. | Canon F1 With 300mm F4 Lens 125 sec @ f4 on Kodak gold 200iso color print film.
