Without a doubt Steelpan Colition from Maine, USA is the Champions for 2006, followed by Salah Steelpan Academy of Montreal and Pan Masters of Toronto placed third. Special mention must be made of Salah and Family for their dedication and hard work in promoting the Steelpan from an educational basis to engage children, youths and adults within the broader Community in Montreal and Quebec. Uniqueness counts for a lot in busking, and Hameed Shaqq, the subway system's steel pan man, has a clear edge on the guitar-strumming competition. Whether he's plinking out Bob Marley favourites at Broadview station or stopping traffic at Bloor by gamely knocking out a request for Stairway To Heaven, Shaqq brings a summery vibe to the underground. Even Cat Stevens tunes are bearable when they're ringing out from Shaqq's steel pans.
