Characters  At the age of thirteen, Cloud left his hometown of Nivelheim to join the Shinra forces. Circumstances forced him from the army, and the ex-Soldier now wanders the world, a brooding mercenary who will accept any job - if the price is right.
Reluctantly allied with the rebel force Avalanche, the fiercely independent Cloud joins their fight to preserve his planet's makou energy. Cloud cleaves enemies in twain with gigantic double-handed swords.
 Head of the underground resistance movement, AVALANCHE, Barret is fighting the mega-conglomerate Shinra, Inc., which has monopolized Mako energy by building special reactors to suck it out of the planet. Barret depends on brute strength and his Gun-arm to see him through. His wife died in an accident several years ago, and he now lives with his so called daughter Marlene. Barret is an excellent character with a good attack, lots of good weapons and great limit breaks, well atleast some of them are much better than the limit breaks of a few other characters. Bright and optimistic, Tifa always cheers up the others when they're down. But don't let her looks fool you, she can decimate almost any enemy with her fists. She is one of the main members of AVALANCHE. She and Cloud were childhood friends, and although she has strong feelings for him, she would never admit it. Tifa is an attacker and therefore will have a better attack than most other characters. Tifa isn't exactly the greatest attacker, and therefore using a defender or healer and a different attacker is recommended.  Young, beautiful, and somewhat mysterious, Aeris met Cloud while selling flowers on the streets of Midgar. She decided to join him soon after. Her unusual abilities allow her to heal the party, but she seems more interested in the deepening love triangle between herself, Cloud and Tifa. Aeris is the best healer type character, however, unless you are the type who wants to do absolutely everything in the game, it is suggested that you use her as little as possible. ***SPOILER*** This is because she will be killed by Sephiroth in the City of the Ancients while praying for Holy near the beginning of the 2nd Disk.  Just as his name implies, he is an animal with fire-red fur. But under his fierce exterior is an intelligence surpassing that of any human's. His sharp claws and fangs make him good at close-range fighting. His true name is not Red XIII, which was given to him by Hojo, but rather Nanaki. He is age 48, but he is still a child in his species. Red XIII is a great backup attacker/healer type character, and his limit breaks are exceptionally powerful. He's best on the first disk because he gets a very powerful weapon, the Seraph Comb, near the beginning of the game. However, later on his usefullness decreases because of the low attack power of his Ultimate Weapon and his horrible Level 4 Limit Break, Cosmo Memory.  Although you'd never know it by looking at her, Yuffie comes from a long line of Ninja. She forced herself into the group just to steal materia. She's sneaky, arrogant and selfish. But with her super shuriken and her special skills, there isn't anyone else you'd rather have on your side in a fight. Yuffie can often be quite useful. Some of her limit breaks are quite powerful and using her Ultimate Weapon + Morph she can deal full damage while morphing.  Cait Sith rides around on the back of a huge stuffed Mog he magically brought to life. Megaphone in hand, he's always shouting orders and creating moronic attacks. Cait Sith is the most underused character in the game, and for good reason. He only has two limit breaks and Barret serves as a much better backup attacker.  Cid is a tough-talking, warm-hearted old pilot and annoying second best character in the game who hasn't forgotten his dreams. There's no better pilot by air or sea. He believes that someday he'll be the first man in space. With his handmade spear and knowledge of machinery, he throws himself into any attack regardless of the danger. Cid is the second best attacker in the game, after Cloud. His Limit breaks are beyond awesome, his weapons look cool, and hes a very good attacker, way better than Tifa. Only Cloud can ever top this awesome character.  A mystical man, stern and upright while at the same time dark and mysterious. His past connection with Shinra, Inc. is what made him join Cloud and the others. He may seem frail at first glance, but hidden inside his body lurks a fearsome power. The only thing good about Vincent is that both him and his Limit Breaks look cool, and truly you will have to admit that his Limit Breaks are interesting, especially his second and fourth ones. Other than that he isn't too great, and his Limit Breaks aren't very damaging |
