THE LOVE RIDE

The annual Love Ride is a charity run for muscular dystrophy. Every November the ride starts at Glendale HD and ends about 50 miles north at Lake Castaic. About 20,000 bikes usually make the ride, and this shot was taken as they began to enter Lake Castaic Park. If you are riding at the front of the group and take a shot behind you....the only thing in sight for as far the eye can see are bikes, bikes, and then more bikes. It's a beautiful thing.

This shot was taken at the staging area directly in front of Glendale HD, where the bikes line up before they take off. As usual, wherever you find a large group of bikers, you can almost be guaranteed to see at least one colorful dude wearing some type of animal hide.

Peter Fonda has been the Love Ride's Grand Marshall for years and rides in from Montana where he lives for the event. That's Lorenzo Lamas (from the television show "The Renegade") on the right, he always makes the ride, too.

This is the stage in front of Glendale HD, where the ride originates from. From the left are "Tonight Show" host Jay Leno (who always starts off the event), radio personality Dr. Demento (some of you old timers may remember him for his quirky radio shows), and Peter Fonda.

The run ends at Lake Castaic, where riders will find plenty of vendors, bike exhibits, great bar-b-que from Tony Roma's, & lots of beer. In this shot, a performance by (from left to right) Stephen Stills, Graham Nash and David Crosby.

Here's just a portion of the parking area at Lake Castaic. Once the asphalt lots fill up, bikes start parking on the hills leading towards the lake.
