Children in Vulnerable Accommodation (CHIVA)
A new service in Leeds for children who are either homeless, refugees or asylum seekers, Travellers, have experienced domestic violence or who have runaway from home. Research and the experience of previous projects in Leeds suggests these children often have greater difficulty than others in accessing play, education, health, support and other services ... often it as simple as they do not have someone to talk to about their experiences. CHIVA hopes to change this by using a multi-agency staff team including people from Education, Housing, Social Services and Early Years services and joining them with one to one support staff funded by the Children's Fund. We hope to link children wherever possible to existing services and to fill gaps where we can. The service is due to start in the Autumn of 2004, details of how to contact the service or refer to it will be available towards this time. If you wish to discuss the project then do not hesitate to contact the Coordinator.
