The Story
Fred Colebourn wants everyone to know the truth about Winnie-the-Pooh. The "silly old bear" created by British author A.A. Milne was not pure invention; he was inspired by a real-life bear in the London Zoo. The bear, "Winnie," was a donation from Colebourn's father, Harry, a Canadian Army veterinarian in the First World War. Fred Colebourn tells CBC's Midday that Winnie was the mascot of the 2nd Canadian Infantry Brigade before becoming a star attraction at the zoo.
