Tribute

To MedicineBear

The traditions  continue....

We are the next generation...

This website was made because we want to carry on the Legacy, Awareness, Education of America's past of  Native American Culture and U.S. History.

MedicineBear  is the founder of Bearland. He passed away August 15th 2002.

We know we can never replace medicine bear. But,the least we can do is give  goodness as he gave to the world. And that is what this website is for and Bearland itself...in his honor and most importanly to The Great Spirit... we now continue .... standing for Love.

Below is a reflection of the times past that we have spent that led us to where we are now.

May you find some goodness  in your travel with us here. Goodness that you can carry in your heart and pass to others. For this is what it's all about. In giving and sharing the circle grows bigger. Feel free to join this webstie as well and make it a part of who you are and share with us as well your world.

and now.... some bits about "MedicineBear"

MedicineBear

When the Earth is Ravaged

and the  Animals are Dying,

a new Tribe of People shall come unto the Earth from many colors,

classes, creeds, and who by their actions and deeds

shall make the Earth Green again.

They will be known as the Warriors of the Rainbow
Old Native American Prophecy

The day of the ceremony for MedcineBear...
The burial ceremony began around 5p.m .
It had already been thoughtfully  and spiritally made.
Prayers and supplications had already been in process.
We gathered as one around the sacred spot with chanting and drums in the distance, moving us toward the dance, toward honor,to the Great Spirit and for love.
The air smelled of sage and other herbal offerings.  Some were dressed for the occasion.
the sky filled with smoke as clouds moved slowly  past our eyes  in seemingly native shapes, a bull a buffallo.
I danced to the beat of the drum as tears swelled in my eyes.  I felt the heat upon my feet and on my face.
And they shall pass through the fire and not be burned,i thought as i stepped one...two and one again,my arms wrapped firmly around my cousin, then my sister, and then another indian and whosever soul should join to mine in dance.
And then we watched... sitting on haystacks as smoke billowed in prayer to the sky, slowly embering out until dusk.
Then the celebration.   Drums began and voices of many indians could be heard.
The dance began for all tribes to join in unison together in celebration.
In circles we swayed, indians and white men alike.
The gathering of the feast was beaver stew and fry bread.  And later on a drum circle including a didjeri do instrument.
We danced our last dance after  the sun went down, while some watched on,ate or explored the world around them .
The night sky turned darker as the fire smoldered to the full moon. Chants could still be softly heard and the crowd now was a gentle few.
fireworks, the grand finale, brought  from some sweet soul, ended this most beautiful day.

The Following are photos from the Native American burial ceremony held at Bearland Trading Post August19th in memorial to Medicine Bear (above) who changed for the Great Spirit on August 15th 2002
