WELCOME TO TYNE & WEAR TRANSPORT GROUP T&WTG is primarily a message board for discussing anything to do with the Tyne & Wear Metro system. Also included are additional pages (on the left hand menu) which we hope will provide you with some interesting background to other aspects of the system. If you are new to the Tyne & Wear Metro system, click the 'About Metro' link on the left to discover a little about the system, its origins and future plans. JOIN US The messages posted on our boards are varied and cover many aspects of the Metro and other issues, from questions about the system / complaints or praise / discussions on the history of Metro and daily observation reports through to the politics of public transport issues. Whether you're a rail enthusiast or just generally interested, you're welcome to join in. We have two message Boards for Metro related discussions and an 'other railways' board for occasional discussions on other railways systems. Just click the 'JOIN NOW' button on the menu. One of our Managers should normally approve your application later the same day. Please help us by ensuring that you choose, or already have an msn username that isn't offensive in any way, otherwise your application may be rejected. Our contact details are located further down the page. THANKS FOR VISITING SPECIAL NOTICES PHOTOGRAPHY & FILMING ON METRO PROPERTY Photography and filming is not permitted on Tyne & Wear Metro property without permission from Nexus, the operators of the system. Nexus issued the following statement to the Group to clarify this issue: "Nexus's view has always been that anyone wanting to film, take photographs, video, etc on the Metro has to have written permission and to sign an indemnity form; if we judge it necessary, they may also need to be accompanied by an appropriate member of staff. We regulate who comes onto the Metro to ensure the health and safety of staff and customers alike and a failure to comply with this request can result in civil action." To request permission to film or photograph on the system, you should contact one of the addresses below, giving as much notice as possible. You should give details of the purpose of your photography/filming (ie. general trainspotting/photo's for your own collection etc) and which stations you would like to go to. Metro Communications Unit PO Box 28 South Gosforth Newcastle-Upon-Tyne NE3 1PZ. metro.communications@nexus.org.uk We would seriously advise against taking pictures or filming on the system without permission. Photography of the system from public footbridges or footpaths etc should not be a problem. Unfortunately, in these times of hightened security, railway photographers appear to be facing more and more restrictions and some have been subject to a 'stop and search' by the Police. For an excellent short guide to the law and photographers rights in the UK, visit this site and download the 2 page Acrobat document. COPYRIGHT ISSUES If you see any images on this site for which you own the copyright but have not given permission to be displayed here, please contact the Group Managers (address further down page) with full details and any problems will be rectified as soon as possible. This site does discourage copyright infringement (see our member rules page) but it is not possible for us to check the origins and situation of each and every image posted, especially the 'less obvious' ones. ABOUT THE GROUP Tyne & Wear Transport Group started in May 2003. The original idea was to provide a message board covering all forms of public transport within, and radiating from the Tyne & Wear area in north east England. It was always planned that the main emphasis however would be on the Tyne & Wear Metro system. This was mainly due to the fact that, with the exception of the official Metro website, there was virtually nothing of any merit on the internet concerning the Metro system for those who were interested. As well as the basic message boards, using msn groups gave us the opportunity to add additional pages, such as a brief history of the system and the Metrocars, which we hoped would be of interest to those visiting. We have since that time gradually added more content to the site, with much more to come as well as older pages being updated and completed. The other public transport message boards were removed in 2003 as it became obvious the Metro board attracted virtually all message postings. Much of the information contained within the site is a result of direct input from various Group Members, from making suggestions to providing upto date information. The Group is currently overseen by three Assistant Managers and two Group Managers.
