Robin Purcell has been passionate about creating art all her life and has been painting in watercolor for twenty years. Robin was educated at the University of Connecticut, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design. A decade ago Robin relocated to California She was immediately drawn to the exciting landscapes and perpetually sunny days of the East Bay. There were several breakthroughs that enabled Robin to master plein air painting. She painted scenes near her house that she could easily return to if she needed more than one painting session. She began interpreting landscapes as if she were painting a floral, pushing neutral colors towards vibrancy, and simplifying shapes. Purcell's paintings of Mount Diablo have been juried into many exhibits, and won numerous awards. She continues the habit of working in series so she can thoroughly know her subject, and interpret the landscape through her distinctive style. Her work has been described as “a precise patchwork of vivid color” and as “dazzling” and “jewel-like”.
