I have been asked what the largest number of chips possible to collect on any one hand is. Here is the answer. This time you are playing the cards. All eight players are in, (this is a “no dealer” game as is popular in Southern California) and each bought two stacks of chips, forty in all. After the ante, you and the other seven players have 39 each. The deck is hot -- you plan to call for a new deck after this hand. To your great excitement, your first five cards are 5S 5S 5S 7S 7S. When you pick up the next five, you almost scream. They are 7S 7S 7S 5S 5S. You have five 5’s of spades and five 7’s of spades! You were dealt flat and your hand as it sits is worth 16 chips (four for the three 5’s of spades plus two each for the fourth and fifth spade five, is eight chips plus the same count for the sevens of spades totals 16 chips).
The player in front of you draws first and he pulls a spade 5 -- the 6th of 7 in the deck! He discards it. You can’t have it -- it’s his first draw, remember? His second draw is a king. He uses it for three Kings with no pay. Go ahead, it’s your draw. Can you believe it? It’s the last five of spades. You have just gone out for 38 chips.

2. The sixth 7S is worth two more and you score it twice…….........4 Chips
3. You get two for going out………………………………................2 Chips
TOTAL 38 Chips from Each Player!

Every other player has to buy chips, they have each an ante left. You have all the others. You invested a chip -- you got 274 back. Has it ever happened? I doubt it!
