Whippet World Code of Conduct
Page 1
Please be sure to read to the end of Page 2 and then click on the link which takes you to the thread to acknowledge that you have read and accepted

Content must be suitable for a ‘family audience’

Whippet World is a family community, open to children and adults. For that reason the content must be kept "G" rated. We want the community to be safe, fun, informative, and interactive.

Graphic adult material/porn will be deleted and the member will be banned from the group.

While light profanity is a way of life, use discretion and restraint with the language used in posts.

NO FLAMING

Threatening, flaming, rude or abusive treatment of another member, either on the Message Board, or the Chat Room, or Trivia Board, or privately in an email will NOT be tolerated.   We encourage spirited discussions, however address the topic or issue...do not take it out on the person expressing their opinion

  • Please click HERE for further discussion on Netiquette and what constitues flaming

Flaming of non-members will also not be tolerated as non-members cannot defend themselves on this forum.  If anyone has an issue that is not Whippet World related, please take it off this forum and keep it private.

  • example 1:   if you have a problem with a breeder, handler, partner, owner, co-owner, kennel – keep it private, do not complain about them publicly on the board

  • example 2:   if someone on the board asks about a particular breeder or kennel and you have negative information about them DO NOT put that information on the board – get in touch privately (you may ask them to email you – and if your email address is not in your profile, you can provide it in a format that the spammers won't pick up by putting spaces before and after the @ symbol)

Absolutely NO Discussions on Greyhound Racing

We try to be pretty flexible about what topics can be posted on Whippet World and pretty much anything is acceptable provided NWR (non-whippet related) or NDR (non-dog related) is in the subject line if it relates to neither.  However the subject of Greyhound Racing is one topic that has not been able to be discussed without breaching the 'no flaming' section of this Code of Conduct.  Therefore Greyhound Racing is a banned topic on Whippet World and any posts on that topic will be immediately removed without further explanation.

No Advertising Puppies

In order to discourage puppy mill type organizations from advertising their litters here, we have a no litter sale policy.  Postings of prices or availability of puppies will be deleted.  It is fine to post litter announcements and photos of litters, but all availability and sales related information must be conveyed via private email.  Regarding the difference between advertising and an announcement we understand what a fine line we are treading here, but we also understand that no member of Whippet World wants this wonderful board to become a puppy brokerage; nor does anyone want to be deprived of a single puppy photo!

  • example:  advertising is saying things like 'I have a litter coming up' in response to someone asking about puppy availability, or 'I have 2 males still available' when talking about your litter.

  • Further to this:  if someone is asking about breeders and litters and is looking for a puppy - if you know of any or have any recommendations please let them know on the thread that you may be able to help out and could they email you privately (see above for how to put your email in a post without being spammed).  This way if it's YOUR litter you can't be thought of as advertising, and if it's someone else's litter or a breeder you recommend you are not putting their info out into a public domain either.

  • No advertising of adults available for sale either for the same reasons as outlined above.

  • Disclaimer:  if you do make private arrangements to buy/sell a puppy from/to a Whippet World member please ensure all the usual checks are done.  We cannot accept responsibility for any connections made via Whippet World and cannot vouch for any breeder/buyer.

Posting Rescues

Posting of Rescues IS allowed.  Rescues may be from an all breed rescue or a whippet specific rescue.

  • If you are posting a rescue from another website please post the direct link to the rescue, do not copy/paste the information from the other website.
  • If you are posting about a private rescue that you have or that you know about, please contact the managers first so we can discuss what information is appropriate to share on the board about your particular rescue and his/her situation.

  • We realize puppies are occasionally available through rescue and we welcome sharing their need for a home. However, rescue groups that advertise "puppies always available" will not be allowed on WW.

Do Not Post ‘Questionable’ Websites Relating to Kennels or Puppy Sales

By putting up a link and saying 'look at the awful condition of these puppies' or 'can you believe they are selling whippets here' or providing a link to a breeder you believe is bad is not only possibly flaming, but it is also ADVERTISING those puppies.  While you may be putting up that link to show the bad stuff, someone looking for puppies may not care and you've just supplied them with a place to get a puppy.  We know that's the last thing that any of us wants - so please DO NOT post links to sites that advertise puppies for sale.

Medical Advice

Any advice offered here is based solely on our personal experiences. Whippet World and it's managers & members cannot accept responsibility for your pets health in regard to any advice given. We recommend contacting a licensed Veterinarian for all medical related issues!

As board members we can only give advice based on personal experience.  We are happy to let you know things that have worked for us in similar situations and give you ideas to take back to your vet to ask and explore, but at the end of the day none of us are vets and none of us can see/examine your dogs in the situation they are in.  You and your vet together are best able to decide the course of action for your dog.

We do not wish to discourage sharing what is happening or asking for help/advice while trying to get to a vet or asking what has worked for others, it's just to say that NOTHING we say on here can be taken as gospel and ALWAYS ALWAYS see your vet.  If you're unsure of your vet's diagnosis then get a second opinion.  If you don't trust your vet then please go find one you can trust.  There is nothing more important to your dog's health than having a vet you trust and can build a good relationship with.

We all can educate ourselves on various treatments, and if our vet prescribes a treatment we are unsure of, then absolutely - we should research it - and the people on here may be able to assist with that by providing links and info from their own research.  But again - please remember that these are OPINIONS!

We also do not wish to discourage people from sharing their experiences with those who are asking for interim advice and support.  However, for the people expressing those opinions please remember that you are not in that situation with that dog and that vet therefore be careful how you word your opinions.  You could talk someone out of a treatment that actually IS right for their dog because of your own personal experience which might have nothing to do with the case at hand.  Absolutely we should encourage checking out all options, but please NO crusades or platforms when it comes to this.  We CANNOT, as a board and as members, act as vets or in place of vets and we should NOT undermine the relationship between our members and their vets.
