Whippet World Code of Conduct

Selling Merchandise

It is acceptable to promote merchandise for sale, however all discussions of price and actual sales must take place off the board.  If you are promoting items please ask potential buyers to contact you privately and provide an email address or website where they can do so.
  • Disclaimer:  please deal with anyone buying/selling through advertising on Whippet World the same way you would with anyone else.  We cannot accept any responsiblity for purchases/sales made via promotions on Whippet World.

Copyright Issues and Bandwidth Theft

Please note that photos posted on Whippet World and kept in Whippet World albums are copyrighted to the owner and may NOT be used on personal websites or for any other purpose without the express permission of the owner.  Providing a link on another board to threads on WW containing photos is perfectly acceptable as by putting the link you are crediting the owner of the site and photo, but by putting photos taken from Whippet World on your own personal website, or using them in any other way without permission of the owner,  is breach of copyright law, and anyone who does so will have their membership removed and will be reported to their ISP.

In addition, as we have said, MSN cracks down really hard on any site found to be using copyrighted images.  They delete groups first and ask questions later.  So can we please ask that members not use any copyrighted images (if you are unsure please ask), but basically anything Disney, Peanuts, Calvin and Hobbes, and the like are always definitely copyrighted.  Some 'official' sites do allow use of their material if it is unchanged (making it into a signature changes it) so if you are using something like that then a link back to the original site would be necessary for MSN to know that it is approved.

Another related issue that MSN is cracking down on is known as Bandwidth Theft.  This is different to copyright.  In a nutshell bandwidth theft is where you copy a graphic or part of a website and then paste it into your post.  By doing this you are actually using that site's bandwidth (storage) which they are paying for.  Sites have a limit to how much bandwidth they're allowed so by doing this you are 'stealing' from their allotment.  If you want to share information from another site put the site address (link) in the post instead.
Click on the graphic to go to a site that discusses Bandwidth Theft in more detail:
   (click on graphic).
If that doesn't take you to the page click HERE or HERE or HERE for further definitions of Bandwidth Theft

If you're unsure either don't post or email one of the managers for confirmation.

Photo Albums

MSN limits the number of total pages a group has on each MSN site.  We encourage members to have a photo album and share photos, but we would ask that all members limit themselves to ONE album per member.  MSN counts each album as a page, but you can have as many pictures in that album as you like (within your own personal allotment of storage space which is 3MB per member unless you purchase extra storage).

Fundraising Policy

Official Fundraisers such as those through Whippet Rescue or other Charitable organizations are permitted to be posted on Whippet World with the appropriate link or address information.  Links to auctions by members raising money for a private cause are also permitted.

If members wish to help out other members who are having difficulty, please do so privately and not on the board unless it is in the form of an auction as stated above.

Any other fundraisers must be approved by the managers before posting and will be approved or not at the discretion of the managers.

Breach of any of the above will result in the post being removed. Depending on the seriousness/or repetition of the breach a member may be put on temporary moderation.

If a member repeatedly breaches the Code of Conduct, then the managers reserve the right to cancel their membership.

The management reserves the right to cancel any membership at its discretion.

If anyone has any problems with other members, posts, or policies please contact the Managers immediately and it will be dealt with by the Managers.  This information will be kept confidential.

Please click HERE and to leave a message to acknowledge that you have read and agree to this Code of Conduct.
