Q: "Can I join this RP?"
A: You would ask this in the OOC thread for the RP, you will get a 'yes' or 'no' answer. You really should respect that answer. ALWAYS ask this question before you try to join a RP.
Q: "What is the purpose of a roleplay Bio?"
A: There are several purposes for a bio. A bio establishes your character's background and can be used to tell and relate your story, express your character's personality, and reveal whatever else you decide to put in it. Most importantly, it is an essential guide for you as well as those roleplaying with you. If you don't want people to wrongly perceive your character when refering to him or her in a post, a bio is an essential part of your character.
Q: "Do I really need a bio?" A: Yes, I'd say so. Most RPers don't like you to be without one. If you don't have one upon joining a roleplay, make sure you have one made shortly after. Otherwise, people might not be so willful to interact for you for fear that they know nothing about you.
Q: "How long should a character BIO be?"
A: Bios can be as long or as short as you want them to be. It all depends on the character and how much you can and want to say about it. Be aware that the more you include in your bio, the more accurately others will roleplay with you in your presense. However, perceptive characters will also be able to know more about you, so if you want to keep a mysterious character stance, you might not want to give too much away in the bio.
Q: "What are the most important parts of a BIO?"
A: It depends mainly on the most important aspects of your character. Generally, whilst a story is entertaining, it's not as essential as other parts. The most important details are those which are most notable upon first glance. A physical description and/or picture, general details (like name, age, race/class, and origin,) and dominant personality traits will be sought the most. Other things (like your character's past) won't usually be needed unless you are playing with a over-talkative psychic, as these things can often be revealed through the roleplay itself.
As a rule of thumb, make sure to atleast include in your bio the details that stand out most; this is what people will refer and write about to when their character is noticing yours.
Q: "I've finished my BIO. Where do I put it?"
A: Under the board titled 'Roleplay Bios.' Make sure to post in the proper format-- 'Bio: CHARACTER NAME'-- Your character's name in place of the capitalised letters.
Q: "I'm citing someone elses BIO, what can(t) I use?"
A: Best to ask the person whilst OOC before you post. Just because something's written in a person's bio doesn't mean your character knows about it. Unless that person has revealed much to you about themselves, your character probably only knows what they look like, sound like, and possibly act like.
